3 Simple Hairstyles to DIY for Summer

It’s finally the season for beach BBQs, poolside bashes, and summertime soirees, and we couldn’t be more excited! Even though outdoor parties can be unbearably hot and humid, you shouldn’t be afraid to try a new ‘do to elevate your warm weather look. We stopped by the Pierre Michel Salon in New York City, where expert stylists Jerome Lordet and Gilda Pastena gave us a step-by-step lesson on how to create three easy summer hairstyles, inspired by looks straight off the runway..

Braided Bun Inspiration: Valentino Spring 2012

First, choose your desired part — Gilda says that it can be in the middle or off to one side. Take a triangle-shaped section of hair right behind the ear on each side using a comb. Beginning with one side, start doing a French braid (take a section, overlap it with some loose hair, and braid it), continuing all the way down. If you want the style to be a little loose and less fussy, Gilda notes that you can pull out small bits of hair while you're braiding. ACID REIGNS
‘After your skin has been exposed to UV rays, ensure you nurture and rehydrate it with cleansing milks containing hyaluronic acid. This will boost moisture levels intensely and also means your moisturiser will work more effectively.’ Fiona Brackenbury, Decléor

A BUFFER’S GUIDE
‘When applying bronzer, how you work your brush is almost as important as what you put on it. For precise, even coverage keep your elbow still and move your wrists in a circular motion. Many women move their whole arm, but this just results in blotchy bronzer.’ Ciara O’Shea, make-up artist
